In response to press enquiries on flooding at Belvedere Garden, a spokesman for the Works Bureau said this (June 27) evening:
"The Drainage Services Department (DSD) is working closely with other relevant Government departments to investigate the cause leading to the wash down of boulders and soil debris which consequently led to the recent flooding near the Belvedere Garden.
While investigating, DSD is working hard to remove all soil debris and boulders trapped at the catchpit and other drainage facilities at the downstream end during the last two weeks.
A number of immediate measures will be undertaken to avoid similar flooding in the area. They include:
- shotcreting the eroded slopes along the existing stream course to prevent further wash down of debris;
- installing additional grills at the entrance of the catchpit to reduce the blockage risk;
- adding more roadside gullies along Fat Yip Lane and Castle Peak Road to enhance the intake capacity of road drainage; and
- maintaining smooth flow of catchwater to reduce overflow during heavy rain.
The Works Departments will strive their utmost to complete these immediate measures at the earliest possible time."
